FIRST NATION’S ARTIST DEAN HERON
About Me: Dean Heron was born in Watson Lake, Yukon, in 1970. He is a member of the Wolf Clan of the Kaska/Tlingit nations that cover large portions of Northern British Columbia, South Eastern, Yukon Territory, and most of the state of Alaska. He has lived primarily in Victoria, British Columbia, and has been an artist since the 1990’s. Artist Statement: “I started doing First Nations art in my early twenties in an effort to help me understand where I was from. It has connected me to the Kaska/Tlingit cultures. The more I explore the art the more I understand that it is a major component of our social customs and values. The art has been a thread that has kept me in touch with my heritage. I am inspired by the old stories and often paint what comes to mind when I hear them. I also paint to celebrate moments in my own life. Whatever the inspiration, I paint to share ideas and stories, and to pass these on to the generations to come.” My Offering: Limited Edition Print - Raven and the Sun Box This is Raven moments before he releases the sun. It depicts the process of that moment of transformation. Here is the Raven in both human and natural form. His top portion already as the raven we see him today, and the rest of him still partially as a human. Value $300 Dean Heron Northern Wolfe Arts @deanheron70
